Blog about Blogging

Blogging can help extend your business on the webYeah, it’s kinda weird to write on my blog about blogging, but I think more businesses could benefit by using blog articles as a way to talk about their products and/or services in more detail. There are always details you might not be able to explain on your website pages, where readers have a shorter attention span.

Additionally, having more rich detailed content on your website can give you a way to create internal links from within your own website, if readers want to know more about a topic.  For example, say you’re the owner of a real estate agency and you have a page talking about financing a new home.  You might mention using FHA loans, then link that to an article talking all about FHA loans, so the reader can see more detail if they choose.

Here are 3 major reasons to host a blog:

Social Media Presence

If you have or are planning to a social media marketing strategy for your business, then blog articles can be a great way to augment the content you need to build your audience and drive traffic to your website.  Writing original content about your products & services gives you credibility, but also give you an opportunity to share the blog article on your social media pages.

Search Footprint for SEO

Creating more content on your website gives you a bigger search footprint with search engines, because you have more content that gives more ways to be found.  When people search for a product or service, they use terms and keywords to find you.  The more rich content you build on your website the better.

Email Marketing

Another popular way to build AND keep your customers is to send regular email marketing newsletters out to prospects or existing customers.  If you’re already doing this, then you have some great topics to use for your blog and the content from your newsletter can be used as a starting point.  And vice versa, you can use new topics on your blog to help produce your newsletters.

How Do Get Started?

It’s really easy to get started. Although I highly recommend using your own website to host your blog, you don’t need a website or blog to get started.  For example, WordPress.com or Tumblr.com are great ways to start blogging about your business.  Even if you do publish a blog on your website, it’s a good practice to use Tumblr.com and other social blogging platforms to build traffic to your website through content.  If you need help getting started, contact us…we’re glad to help!
